Welcome to the Florida Board of Psychology Help Center – an online tool for applicants, licensees, and the public to search and access our Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), contact our office, and learn “how to” do business with the board.

Am I required to apply for examination prior to starting my post-doctoral supervised experience?

No.

What is Florida’s passing score on the national exam?

70% on the examination prior to October 2000. For October 2000 and exams thereafter, the ASPPB recommends the cut-off score. The current ASPPB recommended cut-off score is a scaled score of 500.

I am a new licensee. Am I required to obtain 40 hours of continuing education for the first renewal of my license?

No, pursuant to 64B19-13.003(3), F.A.C., passage of the laws and rules examination of the Board constitutes forty (40) hours of continuing education credit, including credit for professional ethics and Florida Statutes and rules affecting the practice of psychology. Passage of the laws and rules examination, however, does not satisfy the requirement for the two (2) credit hours of continuing education on domestic violence required every third biennial licensure renewal period, nor the requirement for two (2) hours relating to prevention of medical errors.

If I take more than the required 40 hours of continuing education during one biennium, may I count the excess toward the next biennium?

No. All hours must be completed within the 24 months of the license biennium.

How do I know if the courses I am taking are acceptable by the board?

I am interested in getting my doctoral degree to be licensed as a psychologist in Florida. What are the educational requirements for licensure in Florida?

Please refer to sections 490.003(3), and 490.005(1)(b), F.S.

I completed my doctoral program when other requirements were in effect. Can I apply for licensure based on those requirements?

No. You must comply with the requirements in effect at the time you apply.

Must I take a medical errors course prior to submitting my application?

No. However, the two-hour medical errors course is mandated by statute for all initial licensees and for every licensee renewal. Applicants will be required to complete the medical errors course prior to licensure.

Must I take a domestic violence course for initial licensure?

No. Domestic Violence is not required for initial licensure. However, it is mandated by statute that a two-hour (2) Domestic Violence course must be completed for every third (3rd) biennial license renewal.

I am ready to sit for the exams. What do I need to do next?

You can sit for the exams after you complete the following:

  • Submit a complete application for board review
  • Board approval of your application
  • Once the board approves your application your name will be submitted to the exam vendors and the vendors will provide information on how to schedule the exams.
From the time that I sit for my exam, how long will it be before I get my results?

PearsonVue will provide candidates with a “preliminary” grade report for the Florida laws and rules exam immediately following completion of the examination. The National (EPPP) exam vendor will also provide candidates with an “unofficial” score at the test center. Official scores are transmitted to the Board Office on the schedule established by each exam vendor. Upon receipt, the Board’s licensure specialists will review and provide each applicant with formal correspondence regarding next steps based on the exam results. Please note the Board Office is not permitted to release numerical scores or score reports to applicants or any other entity.

Is State of Florida adopting the EPPP2?

Florida Board is not participating in adopting the EPPP part 2 as a requirement for licensure.
